| | The first I heard of this was from someone who left a comment on my MySpace profile. Then I got a couple of text messages from some very excited friends (Hi Liss!).
Apparently, Blender magazine set out to name the best 500 pop songs released since 1980. By their count, the original pool was almost three quarters of a million tunes. After eliminating 743,102 of them, the final results were in.
I wrote, produced and mixed one of the 500.
It's song number 239 to be exact. "Do You Miss Me" as performed by Jocelyn Enriquez is actually described pretty well by Blender writers, not something I'd usually expect about dance music. They correctly understood that it's not just a song about self pity, but an actual taunt directed at the former significant other. I love double-meanings, and I use them whenever possible. To me, that's what makes a good song even better.
And that's all. No ceremony or television show. No awards or trophies. In my experience, the artist gets all the glory in those situations anyway (and takes home the award, go figure). It feels good, though, and it's something else for the resumé and/or grandkids. My name is not even in the article, so a least I haven't used up my 15 minutes of fame. That means it's time to get back to work.
